A geographic information system (GIS),
also known as a geographical information system or
geospatial information system, is any system for capturing,
storing, analyzing, managing and presenting data and
associated attributes which are spatially referenced
to Earth. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology
is a computer-based data collection, storage, and analysis
tool that combines previously unrelated information
into easily understood maps. But GIS is much more than
maps. A GIS can perform complicated analytical functions
and then present the results visually as maps, tables
or graphs, allowing decision-makers to virtually see
the issues before them and then select the best course
of action.
The reach of GIS fluctuates from tackling problems ranging
from prioritizing sensitive species habitats to determining
optimal real estate locations for new businesses. GIS
can be used for urban infrastructure planning, water
resource mapping and monitoring, civil engineering mapping,
contour mapping and detailed forest mapping. Add the
Internet, and GIS offers a consistent and cost-effective
means for the sharing and analysis of geographic data
among government agencies, private industry, non-profit
organizations, and the general public.

Case Study 1
Different State map titles have been created for various
states in Europe and US.
The work involved
- Changing projection and datum
of digital information provided for this project
to required projection and datum.
- Digitizing all information available
from different sources (Digital files from different
authorities, city road maps, county sources from
different county authorities, DOT maps for road classifications,
Township maps, Census records, USGS Quads, Folded
maps, Research updates, Edit Overlays, etc.) as point,
line and polygon.
- Edge matching between State and
Interstate boundaries
The projects delivered include
digitizing of individual cadastral maps. The features
in the cadastral map that needed to be digitized are:
- Boundary of Commune, Province,
etc
- Roads,
- Water bodies
- Buildings
- Symbols like Church, Cemetery
- All annotations including parcel
nos., Road names, Community names, etc
Case Study 2
Different State map titles have been created for various
states in Europe and US.
The work involved
- Each cadastral map is scanned
and the image is geocoded to the required projection.
- All features are digitized in different
levels as per specification.
- Topology checks are made.
- Links are established between buildings
and respective parcels if any.
- Validation is carried out for Topology
- Quality check is carried out and
each map is finalized and delivered.
